NASA marks Apollo 8's first flight to the moon 50 years later

Christmas on the moon, we look back at the first voyage around the earth's natural satellite 50 years ago

Fifty years ago, during Christmas week, three US astronauts flew around the moon.

The mission is considered to be NASA's boldest and perhaps most dangerous ever.

That first voyage set the stage for the Apollo 11 moon landing seven months later.
