Stocks open with solid gains after Dems win House
U.S. stocks rose Wednesday as trading opened for the first time since Democrats clinched control of the House in Tuesday’s midterm elections.
The Dow Jones industrial average opened 173 points higher, a 0.68 percent increase, while the Standard and Poor’s 500 and Nasdaq composite started Wednesday with gains of 0.63 percent and 0.64 percent each.
Dow Jones futures implied a boost of 210 points when the market opened. S&P 500 futures implying an opening rise of 26 points, while an 80-point boost to Nasdaq Composite futures implied a 101-point gain.
