Pence: ‘No wall, there’s no deal’

Vice President Mike Pence said Thursday that the administration is willing to negotiate on parts of the shutdown showdown, but he said there will have to be some money for border barriers.

“There’s no wall, there’s no deal,” he told reporters at the Capitol.

Mr. Pence, who has been leading negotiations with congressional leaders on behalf of President Trump, said they have been stonewalled by Democrats who have yet to offer any counterproposals of their own.

He said that stance of refusing to negotiate is going to wear thin with the public, and undercut Democrats’ claims that they do in fact support border security.

“It’s hard for the American people to accept a party that won’t even negotiate an agreement over border security is committed to border security,” he said.
